I offer IFS sessions online, both in English and Danish. Online sessions has proven as a good alternative to in-person sessions.
Surprisingly, IFS sessions functions pretty well online. As a client myself I’ve done sessions online without ever meeting my therapist in real life. And as a therapist I’ve given many sessions to clients from around the world. Since therapy, both physically and verbally, requires an atmosphere of trust and openness in order to unfold and deepen, one could wonder why this actually works.
I assume it has to do with the focus of IFS which is essential inwards. Because the therapy is all about the exploration of your inner life, the outer appearance and interaction becomes less important. This allows you to sit with closed eyes during sessions while I as the therapist supports the inner journey.
Bottom line is that IFS online doesn’t prevent the therapy from going deep. On the contrary, being at home in safe surroundings can facilitate you to touch upon vulnerable spots you would normally need longer time to access. Furthermore, the flow of sessions can continue during travels, be it business trips or holiday time.
There’s a few practical things to consider before engaging in online sessions:
Connecting technically
For the therapy to work, it’s important for me to be able to read your facial expression. It’s equally important that we can hear each other’s voice. For this reason a stable internet connection is crucial.
That said, it’s still possible to have meaningful sessions with a challenged connection for shorter periods. In case of varying connection, the videotelephony usually functions pretty well with only small periods of freezing.
Online security
Everything we talk about in IFS sessions is confidential. The videotelephony software has to be both safe and stable. I use Zoom which is known for both qualities.

Times zones
The time zone for Copenhagen is Central European Time (CET), used by most countries in the EU. Please be aware of the time difference if you live in another time zone.
